Data Stewardship Goes Germany

On 13 and 14 of October data stewards from all over Germany will come together at the TU Braunschweig for a workshop on research data management. Dr. Sandra Zänkert is going to represent the DSC and will give an insight into the process of establishing domain-specific data stewardship.

This week the Technische Universität Braunschweig is going to host the ‘Data Stewardship goes Germany’ event. On 13 and 14 of October, a two-day workshop on research data management (RDM) in natural sciences and engineering is going to take place. The event will serve as a networking opportunity for data stewards and experts from a variety of different universities and institutes. Participants will present and discuss ideas, challenges and best practices surrounding the topic of RDM.

Data stewards have subject matter expertise in the field of research data management. They provide specialist advice and trainings for researchers, develop sustainable solutions for handling research data and promote the application of the FAIR principles. More and more institutions are in need of data stewardship in order to establish an efficient RDM-infrastructure and raise awareness on the topic. Since the field of data stewardship is a relatively new community, the ‘Data Stewardship goes Germany’ event aims to provide a platform of exchange for data stewards from all over the country.

The first day of the workshop will comprise different key notes and talks addressing subjects such as data management case studies, the application of the FAIR principles and RDM plans and tools. In addition, participants are going to present and discuss their experiences as data stewards during a poster session. On the second day of the workshop, the data stewards are going to attend a so-called bar camp. This is an open and interactive conference format. It is characterised by an agenda that will be developed and determined by the participants themselves.

Data steward Dr. Sandra Zänkert is going to represent the DSC at the upcoming event. During the poster session on the first day, Sandra will contribute to the discussion with a poster that gives an overview over the DSC data stewards’ activities during their first months at the DSC. Sandra’s presentation will thus provide an exemplary insight into the process of establishing domain-specific data stewardship from scratch.
