TRAINING

BACKGROUND – STRENGTHENING DATA COMPETENCIES

The steady progress of digitalization has now reached all areas of society and has changed entire research fields and industrial sectors. Due to the enormous increase in available data, the relevance of data science and the demand for well-trained professionals is growing rapidly. A study by the Stifterverband für deutsche Wissenschaft e.V.  showed that 700,000 additional tech-experts will be needed in the German economy alone by 2023. Accordingly, German universities are urged to establish new digital career fields and practice-oriented qualification programs to strengthen the digital skills and educate a future generation of (data science) experts. This is for instance highlighted in the Hochschul-Bildungs-Report 2020  and also by the Rat für Informationsinfrastruktur (RfII) .

In order to meet the demands, the DSC supports the expansion and further development of the education and training programs in the field of data science at the University of Bremen, aiming to train the specialists of tomorrow.

HOW DOES THE DSC PROMOTE DATA COMPETENCIES?

DATA SCIENCE TRAININGS

The DSC offers dedicated workshops and trainings for PhD students and postdocs on data literacy. All current workshops can be found below and you can also register there directly. If your faculty has specific needs for Data Science trainings, please feel free to send us an E-MAIL to discuss possible options.

IT-INFRASTRUCTURE

The DSC supports teaching and training formats of the University of Bremen with computing resources for the implementation of computation-intensive applications and data analyses e.g. from the field of AI. Feel free to write us an E-MAIL if you are interested in this kind of support for your lectures. More information can also be found »HERE.

SUPPORT FOR LECTURERS

The DSC supports lecturers in integrating data science aspects into their courses or developing new formats. If you are interested in this and would like to discuss the possibilities, please feel free to write us an E-MAIL.

Data Train – Training in Research Data Management and Data Science
Data Train is a centralized training for doctoral candidates at member institutions of the U Bremen Research Alliance. The courses are allocated to tracks and build on one another. The "Starter Track" consists of interactive lectures giving an overview on topics in the fields of research data management and data science. In the two operator tracks "Data Steward" and "Data Scientist", students gain competences of a data steward and data scientist, respectively, and apply digital tools directly in hands-on workshops. Doctoral candidates can complete the entire track or take individual courses.

Research Data Management – Information and Support
Unit 12 – Research Services of the University of Bremen and the State and University Library Bremen provide information on research data management. They support and advise researchers in identifying suitable repositories, developing data management plans and all other relevant questions. The recommendations of the University of Bremen on handling research data can also be found on their website (only available in German).
