SHORT PROFILE
Susanne de Vogel studied Social Sciences at the University of Cologne and Utrecht University, graduating in 2013 with a diploma degree in Sociology. In 2019, she earned her Ph.D. in Sociology from the Chair of Social Structural Analysis at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. In her dissertation, she examined individual and structured doctoral contexts with regard to access to doctoral studies, the conditions for obtaining a doctorate, and the career trajectories of doctorate holders after completing their Ph.D. From 2013 to 2024, she worked as a research associate at the German Centre for Higher Education Research and Science Studies (DZHW) in Hannover. There, she was involved in building and conducting two nationwide panel studies, the DZHW PhD Panel and the National Academics Panel Study (Nacaps).
Her areas of expertise include the entire lifecycle of quantitative survey data – from study design, instrument development, and data collection to data preparation, data analysis, and data management. As a member of a research cluster on empirical methods in higher education and science research, she has been particularly involved in the (further) development of survey methods. Her research has focused on the quantitative analysis of panel data on academic careers and inequalities in academia.
As a Data Scientist at the DSC within the BMBF project DataNord, Susanne de Vogel supports researchers in the field of social sciences in expanding their skills in data collection, preparation, analysis, and management, particularly focusing on survey data.
