WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

The proper FAIR management of research data is becoming a requisite for researchers across disciplines. When working with personal data, there are additional legal, ethical and technical demands to consider – especially with an increasing focus on making data available for reuse. Getting an initial overview on regulations, tools and obligations can be as challenging as keeping up to date.

EVENT DESCRIPTION

This workshop aims to provide an overview on best practices for personal data management along the research data lifecycle. We will cover:

  • What is personal data?
  • Overview on the basics of legal requirements (especially data protection, GDPR, informed consent)
  • Introduction to data security and encryption (including data storage and backup, data sharing and collaboration)
  • Hands-on anonymisation vs. pseudonymisation
  • How to publish research when working with personal data?

WHY ATTEND?

By the end of the course, participants will have a solid understanding of the key considerations for managing personal data in a research setting and be equipped with the tools and knowledge to implement best practices in their own work:
  • You will know the differences between sensitive and personal data.
  • We will provide you with a portfolio of tools, templates and resources for personal data management.
  • You will be able to summarize relevant information for DMP writing.
  • You will know what to consider when planning to make research data accessible to others.

TARGET AUDIENCE

The workshop is open to all researchers of the University of Bremen and other institutions of the U Bremen Research Alliance working with personal and sensitive data.
