NFDI enters the second round: Seven letters of intent with contribution from Bremen

Also in the second call, Bremen is actively involved in establishing NFDI consortia - the DSC is also represented.

This year, 30 declarations of intent were submitted to the DFG and published on the DFG-NFDI website. In addition to the University of Bremen and the DSC, the following seven institutions from the Bremen area are involved: BIPS, MARUM, AWI, Fraunhofer MEVIS, IWT, German Maritime Museum and Jacobs University. Out of 18 binding letters of intent for an application in 2020, four are with Bremen contribution:

NFDI4Earth - NFDI Consortium Earth System Sciences
Co-Spokesperson: Prof. Dr. Stephan Frickenhaus (AWI)
Participants: Prof. Dr.Michal Kucera (Universität Bremen / MARUM); Prof. Dr. Vikram Unnithan (Jacobs University Bremen)

NFDI4DataScience - NFDI for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence

In addition, 12 non-binding letters of intent were submitted for an application next year, three of which were with participation from Bremen:

NFDI4Phys - Nationale Forschungsdateninfrastruktur für disziplinäre und transdisziplinäre Physik
Spokesperson: Prof. Dr. Hans-Günther Döbereiner (Universität Bremen)
Participants: Prof. Dr. Uwe Engel (Universität Bremen); Prof. Dr. Rolf Drechsler (DSC); Dr. Lena Steinmann (DSC); Prof. Dr. Frank Kirchner (Universität Bremen)

NFDI4LifeUmbrella - Research data management infrastructure for life sciences
Co-Speaker: Prof. Dr. Iris Pigeot (BIPS); Prof. Dr. Frank-Oliver Glöckner (MARUM / AWI)

InnoMatSafety - Consortium for the Safety of Innovative Materials
    Co-Spokesperson: Dr. Norbert Riefler (IWT)

In three rounds, the German federal and state governments fund up to 30 consortia over a period of five years. A total of up to 85 million euros per year are available for this purpose. The deadline for submitting an application in this round is September 30, 2020, with funding beginning on October 1, 2021.

In 2019, nine consortia received funding, four of them with participation from Bremen. You can find more information here.
